"In a time when good news is hard to come by, Saturday’s victory gave all of us a reason to cheer and forget, even for a while, our worries and anxieties. Well done and thank you to the entire squad and backroom team"
On Monday, 23rd March 2009 The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Brian Bermingham extended an invitation through the IRFU to the Irish Rugby Team to a Civic Reception in their honour in City Hall, Cork at the team’s earliest available opportunity.
On opening the Book of Condolences on Monday March 9th, The Lord Mayor had stated that the shootings should not be allowed in any way to distract politicians on either side in Northern Ireland from the path they have taken to true peace and reconciliation on the island.
Cork Chamber President, Joe Gantly today strongly welcomed the announcement of the development of Ireland's first "science park" in Cork.
According to Mr. Gantly, "The proposed science and innovation park will be a key element in the regional infrastructure supporting the growth of today's global knowledge economy. Enhancing and extending the existing levels of connectivity between industries, third level institutions and research institutions within the region will undoubtedly add to the regions ability to attract investment."
