On opening the Book of Condolences on Monday March 9th, The Lord Mayor had stated that the shootings should not be allowed in any way to distract politicians on either side in Northern Ireland from the path they have taken to true peace and reconciliation on the island.

The Lord Mayor of Coventry, which is twinned with Cork city since 1969, was in Cork at the official invitation of Cork ’s Lord Mayor Cllr. Brian Bermingham. 

The Lord Mayor opened the Book of Condolences in the presence of members of the local Remembrance and Historical Committees.
